Mint Polish - Franken Your Own :)

One of the summer nails trends is definitely mint polish. It's really fresh and fun for the summer. However, my nail polish collection is already quite large and I didn't want to buy more nail polishes when I really didn't 'need' them.

To 'franken' a nail polish means to mix two or more polishes together to create a new colour. It's a great way to save money and create a custom polish colour. After last weeks NOTW, I noticed I had a lime green polish that I rarely ever use. I decided to give it a great use and mixed it with another polish to make a mint/jade colour ( the polish on the right is the frankened one) :

Jade/Mint Polish Recipe:
- 2 Parts  China Glaze For Audrey
- 1 Part Sally Hansen Xtreme wear in Green with Envy
- around 6-7 drops of white polish ( it was a dat bit too dark on it's own - I used Wet n Wild Wild Shine in French Creme. but any brand will do, as long as the polish isn't thick)
( amounts are general estimates, I mostly worked just by looking at the polish and adding as I pleased)

Adding white can change the polish colour quite a bit, so work drop by drop if you are making a lighter shade.

Here's how it looks on my nails in natural lighting. So Pretty :D:

This frankened polish colour is very similar to Salley Hansen - Jade Jump. Jade Jump is a little bit lighter. Google the polish  name to look at more swatches :D :

Also, a tip when mixing: make sure to shake up the polish after every addition. Shake it constantly for around a minute to get an even mix and an accurate look at the polish. Get a white piece of paper to do swatches throughout the mixing. I found that judging solely by the colour you see outside the bottle is not as accurate as swatching the polish itself. The polish that sticks to the side does not get mixed up as well with the rest of the contents in the bottle.Be patient with the mixing! I wasn't with this one and added too much green :(

Also, I didn't want to make this polish too light since I had already frankened another mint polish last year. It was a too blue, so I added a little bit of the Salley Hansen Green with Envy to it to make it a true mint colour:

Mint Polish Recipe:
- 1 Parts ORLY-Green with Envy ( ironically the same name.. LOL)
- 2 Parts White Polish ( can be any brand )
- 0.5 parts Sally Hansen - Green with Envy

The ORLY polish really didn't go well with my skin tone, and I didn't want to waste the polish; so I frankened it! This colour turned into a true mint colour:

I reused an old WnW polish bottle to put my new franken polish in. Cleaning the bottle was a total pain. I pretty much filled the empty polish bottle ( which still a little bit of polish stuck to the side) with nail polish remover and shook it constantly. I would also stick a q-tip in the bottle to help lift up the polish from the sides.

Heres swatches of all of them together:

#3 + #4 look a a bit darker than they are in real life

1. ORLY-Green with Envy + White Polish ( see? a bit too blue for me)
2. ORLY Green w/ Envy + White Polish + SH Green w/ Envy
3. CG For Audrey + White Polish + SH Green w/ Envy
4. CG For Audrey

My next franken polish shall be a coral/peach colour :D. I actually already know what polishes I'm going to mix. Thanks for reading, and follow me for more of my nail adventures :)
